This program will focus on the requirements for hospitals to prevent ligature risk and self-harm for patients that are suicidal. Any hospital that receives Medicare must implement these changes for all patients.
The program will share tools and resources to help facilities identify the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission (TJC) updates that hospitals should make sure are implemented. For CMS updates, this includes what units need to be ligature resistant, what patient and environmental assessments need to be completed and the policy and procedure requirements. For TJC requirements, standard compliance includes psych hospitals, behavioral health units, general acute care inpatient units, outpatient units and emergency departments. We will also discuss the Zero Suicide Campaign and TJC Sentinel Event Alerts on suicide. To register online, you will need to log-in first (to obtain log-in information, contact MHA at firstname.lastname@example.org).
